Bilateral Commentary

  • Comedian Stephen Colbert made an off-color joke about Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, and Conservatives went crazy.  Was it the fact that the joke was dirty, or was it because it exposed a much deeper fear for Conservatives?  When humor hits too close to home it can result in a very visceral reaction, so maybe the reaction to Colbert's late night jab was more politically driven than based on an affront to good taste or moral decency?

  • The Culture War has been raging for decades, but when you get right down to it, what's the big deal?  Should Culture War issues have any impact on our public discourse?  Or are we making a mountain out of a mole hill?

  • Identity Politics is the latest buzzword being thrown around our discourse and labeled as a bad term.  Identity is something we can't fight, because it is who we are.  Where we can affect our discourse is understanding the difference between identity and culture, and how proper governance can address both.
